Dandenong. Cranbourne. Truganina. Tarneit. Melbourne's south and west have become home to one of Australia's largest South Asian communities. The growth in the last decade has been staggering. Entire suburbs have shifted demographics, with Indian grocery stores, restaurants, and temples opening faster than the city's public transport can keep up with.
The show that runs in New York: real contestants go on live dates on stage while a packed room watches, reacts, and picks favorites. Afterward, the whole crowd mingles. Melbourne's comedy scene is one of the best in the world, and this format's blend of live entertainment and genuine romance is a natural fit for a city that takes its Fringe seriously.
Monash, UniMelb, RMIT, and Deakin all pull in enormous Indian student populations. Melbourne is consistently ranked as one of the top study destinations globally, and South Asian students make up a huge share of that. After graduation, many stay. The result is a young, professional, growing community that has plenty of cultural events but almost nothing designed specifically for singles.
Melbourne's comedy scene is strong. The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is one of the biggest in the world. The city's appetite for live, boundary pushing entertainment is well documented. A live dating show with comedy energy is a natural fit for this audience.
Waitlist is open. Melbourne is neck and neck with Sydney for our first Australian show. , or apply to be a contestant.
Melbourne is a live entertainment city with no live dating night
Melbourne prides itself on being Australia's culture capital: the comedy festival, the theatres, the laneway gigs, the general belief that a good night out should involve a stage. Meanwhile its South Asian community, one of the country's largest and youngest, has student cohorts at four major universities and booming suburbs in the west and southeast, and its singles meet each other almost exclusively through apps with shallow Australian pools and group house parties where everyone already knows everyone.
A city this committed to live formats not having a live dating show is a gap begging to be filled, and the audience that fills comedy festival rooms every April is exactly the audience this show was built for.
What a Garam Masala night in Melbourne will look like

Melbourne and Sydney are genuinely neck and neck for the first Australian date and the waitlist is the tiebreaker. , or apply to be a contestant and give the comedy capital its newest format.

Where would the Melbourne show be?
Venue TBD. We are evaluating spaces accessible to both the CBD and the growing South Asian suburbs in the south and west. Waitlist members will be first to know.
Can I apply to be a contestant?
Yes. Apply now. Applications stay active for 12 months. Melbourne applicants will be prioritized when we confirm a date.
Is there Indian speed dating in Melbourne?
Rarely, and never with a crowd. Melbourne's strength is live entertainment culture: this is the city of the International Comedy Festival. A dating show built on stand-up and audience voting fits Melbourne better than any city outside New York.
Where do South Asian singles in Melbourne actually meet?
Uni societies at Monash, UniMelb, RMIT and Deakin, community events out in Dandenong and Tarneit and the CBD laneway bar circuit. Students meet students and suburbs meet suburbs. Nothing currently mixes the whole scene, which is the point of the show.
Will the show be in the CBD or the suburbs?
Likely central for transit, with timing that works for the west and southeast. Melbourne's desi population is spread from Tarneit to Cranbourne, so the venue call is about making one room reachable for all of it.
