Moncton has been one of the fastest growing cities in Atlantic Canada for new immigrants, and a significant portion of that growth is South Asian. The Atlantic Immigration Program has made New Brunswick a viable destination for Indian families and professionals who might have defaulted to Toronto or Vancouver a decade ago. The community is young, building something new, and figuring out the social scene as they go.
The format from New York: singles go on dates on stage, comedians host, and the full room mingles before and after. In Moncton, where the desi community is being built from scratch by Atlantic Immigration Program arrivals, this format gives a brand new population its first dedicated social event for singles instead of waiting a decade for one to emerge organically.
Université de Moncton and Crandall University bring students to the area, but the real story is the families settling in Moncton for the long term. Indian restaurants have started popping up along Mountain Road. The Hindu temple and gurdwara are active. The community infrastructure is being built in real time, and social events for singles are part of what’s missing.
The cost of living in Moncton compared to Ontario is a major draw, and it means the people who come here are investing in staying. They’re buying houses, starting businesses, and putting down roots. What they don’t have is a way to meet other single desi people outside of work or the few community gatherings that exist.

Moncton is Atlantic Canada's quiet second desi hub
Moncton's affordability drew Indian newcomers who priced out of Ontario dreams, and the city's bilingual service economy and growing IT sector gave them jobs to stay for. Université de Moncton and Crandall add students, and the community now spans the tri-cities with typical Atlantic warmth and typical small market gaps: the social calendar is family events and the singles pool has never once been gathered in a room.
New Brunswick's first desi singles night is a provincial occasion whether we plan it that way or not. We plan it that way.
