Penn State has one of the largest Indian student populations of any university in the country, and State College is essentially an island built around it. If you're desi and you're here, your social world is the university. Your dating world is also the university. And the apps cycle through the same people in about two weeks.
The show format from New York works perfectly in college towns: real contestants go on dates in front of a live audience, the room reacts, and afterward everyone mingles. In State College, where the dating pool is intense but small, this adds new energy to a market that desperately needs it.
State College doesn't get a lot of cultural events targeted at the South Asian community beyond what the student organizations put together. ISA does its thing, but there's a gap between Nittany Lion football weekends and actual social events where single people can meet. That's the gap we fill.

State College is three hours from everything, which usually reads as a bug and is, for this show, the feature. Penn State holds one of the biggest Indian student populations in America inside a town with one social calendar. Nobody is choosing between our show and a hundred other desi events, because there are no other desi events. When something real comes to Happy Valley, the entire community shows up to the same room on the same night.
That concentration is exactly what a live dating format wants: everyone in one place, everyone sharing the same 90 minutes, everyone still there for the mixer because there is nowhere else to be.
What a Garam Masala night in State College looks like
Two Penn State singles who have never met, a mechanical engineering PhD and a Smeal MBA maybe, on stage in front of a crowd that will absolutely see each other at the HUB on Monday. Live votes, comedian hosts and a mixer where the whole desi campus finally meets outside a GBM.

Is this for students or working professionals?
Both. The show attracts singles in their 20s and 30s. Grad students, undergrads, and local professionals are all welcome.
Can I apply to be a contestant?
Yes. Apply now. Applications stay active for 12 months. State College applicants will be prioritized when we confirm a date.
Is there Indian speed dating at Penn State?
Student orgs run occasional mixers, but nothing with a stage, a crowd and a format. In a town where everything happens on campus, a real live dating show is genuinely new territory.
Where do Indian students at Penn State actually meet?
ISA events, department clusters, apartment parties in the same three complexes and a dating app radius that hits farmland in every direction. Happy Valley density is real. The occasions are not. That is fixable.
Will townies and staff come or just students?
College towns always surprise us: faculty, hospital staff and young professionals show up alongside the student crowd. Single is single, and the mixer does not check enrollment status.
