Phahurat has been Bangkok's Sikh and Punjabi trading hub for over a century. The gurdwara on Chakraphet Road is one of the oldest in Southeast Asia, and the fabric shops and Indian restaurants around it still anchor the community. But the modern South Asian presence in Bangkok extends well beyond Phahurat. The Silom and Sukhumvit corridors are full of Indian tech workers, entrepreneurs, and digital nomads drawn by the cost of living and the food.

The format from New York: real contestants go on live dates on stage while a packed room watches, reacts, and picks favorites. Afterward, the whole crowd mingles. Bangkok's nightlife infrastructure is world class and the city's international crowd is used to creative, boundary pushing events. A desi dating show fits right into the landscape without feeling like a niche import.

The Indian expat community here spans tech, trade, and hospitality. Soi 11 and Soi 22 have become informal gathering spots for South Asian professionals. International schools and companies with regional HQs bring in desi families, and the singles within that community are often invisible to the city's event scene. Everyone caters to the generic expat crowd. Nobody programs specifically for South Asians.

Bangkok is one of those cities where everyone goes out constantly but nobody meets anyone meaningful. The rooftop bars recycle the same faces, the apps are a mess of tourists and scammers, and meaningful connections require effort that the city's lifestyle doesn't encourage. A room full of desi singles who are explicitly there to connect changes the equation entirely.

Bangkok has two desi communities that never meet

Phahurat's Sikh and Punjabi trading families go back over a century, with the gurdwara anchoring one of Southeast Asia's oldest desi communities. The new wave, IT professionals, finance expats and entrepreneurs along Sukhumvit, lives a parallel life of rooftop bars and serviced apartments. The two Bangkoks share festivals occasionally and social lives never, and the singles in both report the same thing: a city of endless nightlife with no night for them.

One show, both Bangkoks, one room. The mixer will be the first structured meeting these communities have had in a generation.

What a Garam Masala night in Bangkok looks like

A Sukhumvit fintech expat and a Phahurat family business heir who have never met, on stage, going on a first date while a genuinely multigenerational desi crowd reacts over drinks. Comedian hosts, live votes and a mixer that runs on Bangkok time, which is to say gloriously late.

Questions About Bangkok Shows

When is Garam Masala Dating coming to Bangkok?

No date confirmed yet. Bangkok is part of our Southeast Asia expansion. to be notified first.

Will the show be in English or Thai?

The show runs in English, which works in Bangkok because the South Asian professional and expat community is comfortable in English.

Can I apply to be a contestant?

Yes. Apply now. Applications stay active for 12 months. Bangkok applicants will be prioritized when we confirm a date.

Is there Indian speed dating in Bangkok?

Bangkok has expat mixers for every industry and nothing for its century-old desi community plus the new expat wave. A live comedy dating show bridges Phahurat's heritage crowd and the Sukhumvit professionals in one night.

Where do desi singles in Bangkok actually meet?

Sukhumvit's expat circuit, Phahurat's community institutions, the international firms' offices and each other's Instagram stories. Two desi Bangkoks, zero shared occasions.

Will the show suit the expat crowd or the settled community?

Both by design. The format needs no local context beyond being single, and the mixer thrives on exactly the mix Bangkok's desi scene never engineers on its own.
