Chungking Mansions to Mid Levels, HK Gets a Live Desi Show
Hong Kong's South Asian community is over 80,000 strong, spanning from Chungking Mansions traders to Central's IFC bankers, with roots going back over a century
Waitlist signups determine where we announce next.
Hong Kong's South Asian community is over 80,000 strong and has been part of the city's fabric for more than a century. Indian traders, Sikh police officers, and Pakistani merchants helped build the colony long before the handover. Today the community spans Chungking Mansions in Tsim Sha Tsui (the informal HQ, still chaotic, still essential) to the glass towers of Central where Indian bankers hold senior positions on IFC's trading floors. The range is staggering.
The format from New York: real contestants go on live dates on stage while a packed room watches, reacts, and picks favorites. Afterward, the whole crowd mingles. Hong Kong is a city where everyone is busy, successful, and terrible at making time for their personal lives. The finance and consulting hours are brutal. A show that gathers South Asians from across the city's economic spectrum creates the cross pollination that HK's segregated social scene doesn't naturally allow.
HKU, HKUST, and CUHK attract South Asian students. The professional services firms and banks employ a significant number of Indian and Pakistani professionals. The domestic worker community from South Asia adds another dimension. But socially, these groups rarely overlap. A show that brings South Asians from across the city's economic spectrum into one room creates cross pollination that Hong Kong's segregated social scene doesn't naturally allow.
The South Asian community here is small enough that people are aware of each other but don't necessarily know each other personally. That's the perfect dynamic for a dating show. Familiar enough to feel comfortable, unfamiliar enough that every conversation is a genuine discovery. The Wan Chai and Tsim Sha Tsui venue options are excellent.
