Ottawa has a quiet but substantial South Asian community and most of it falls into two buckets: government and tech. The Kanata tech corridor is full of Indian engineers who came through Shopify, Nokia, or one of the defence contractors. Carleton and U of Ottawa graduate thousands of South Asian students annually. And then there’s the federal government crowd, which skews more established and more likely to have parents texting them Shaadi profiles.

The format from New York: singles go on dates on stage, comedians host, and the full room mingles before and after. In Ottawa, where the social scene splits between Kanata engineers and downtown government workers, this format collapses the two bubbles into a single night where everyone is there for the same reason.

The dating scene in Ottawa is notoriously slow. People are polite, cautious, and tend to stick to their circles. If you’re South Asian and single in Ottawa, your options are apps, the occasional cultural event at the Civic Centre, or hoping someone’s mom sets you up at the next dinner party. This show gives you an actual room full of people who showed up for the same reason.
