Stockholm’s Indian community has grown through the tech sector. Spotify, Klarna, Ericsson, and the startup ecosystem have recruited heavily from India, and KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University add to the pipeline. The community is concentrated in areas like Kista (Stockholm’s tech hub) and around the university campuses.
The format from New York: real contestants go on live dates on stage while the room watches and reacts. Afterward, the whole crowd mingles. In Stockholm, this format is designed to concentrate the scattered desi community into one room for one night, creating connections that the apps and expat mixers never deliver.
Swedish dating culture is famously reserved. People don’t approach strangers, first dates happen through apps, and the concept of a loud, expressive, communal dating event is basically alien. For South Asians in Stockholm, that cultural gap can feel isolating. You’re used to community, to being around people who understand your background, and then you’re alone in a city where small talk is considered invasive.
The show cuts through all of that. A room full of South Asians, a shared cultural context, two hosts who get it, and permission to actually be social. In Stockholm, that’s revolutionary.

Stockholm's desi engineers hit the Nordic social wall
Stockholm's unicorns and KTH's programs pulled thousands of Indian engineers into the world's most systematically reserved social culture: colleagues are kind, calendars are sacred and friendship formation effectively closed after age 25. The desi transplants get great parental leave policies they cannot yet use and precisely zero formats for meeting a partner.
The show is a cultural exemption certificate: one night where talking to strangers is the entire licensed activity.
What a Garam Masala night in Stockholm looks like
A Spotify backend engineer and a Karolinska researcher who have never met, on stage, going on a first date while Stockholm's desi crowd experiences public emotional expression in a sanctioned setting. Comedian hosts, live votes and a Södermalm mixer that runs from fika-polite to festival-loud on schedule.

Questions About Stockholm Shows
When is Garam Masala Dating coming to Stockholm?
No date confirmed yet. Stockholm is on our Europe expansion radar. to be notified first.
Will the show be in English?
Yes. The show runs in English, which works because the South Asian professional and student community in Stockholm is comfortable in English.
Can I apply to be a contestant?
Yes. Apply now. Applications stay active for 12 months. Stockholm applicants will be prioritized when we confirm a date.
Is there Indian speed dating in Stockholm?
Stockholm's tech scene recruited a generation of Indian engineers into a culture where talking to strangers is a misdemeanor. No desi events exist. The gap between need and supply here is Nordic-sized.
Where do desi singles in Stockholm actually meet?
Spotify, Klarna and the KTH orbit, Kista's tech campuses and fika breaks with the same team forever. Swedish social culture runs on pre-existing bonds, which transplants by definition lack.
Will Swedes come to watch?
Curious plus-ones are welcome and Stockholm's English is flawless. The audience vote will be the most orderly on tour and the mixer the most surprisingly unhinged, because that is the Swedish party arc.
