Antwerp’s Indian community has a unique origin: the diamond industry. Indian traders, primarily Gujarati Jains from Palanpur, have dominated the Antwerp diamond district for decades. The community around Pelikaanstraat and the Centraal Station area is tight, wealthy, and culturally specific. Layer in University of Antwerp’s international students and the broader South Asian diaspora and you’ve got a smaller but fascinating audience.
The format from New York: real contestants go on live dates on stage while the room watches and reacts. Afterward, the whole crowd mingles. In Antwerp, this format is designed to concentrate the scattered desi community into one room for one night, creating connections that the apps and expat mixers never deliver.
The diamond community is legendarily insular when it comes to marriage and dating. Families have expectations, networks are predetermined, and the idea of meeting someone organically outside those networks is novel. This show creates a space for that while still feeling culturally grounded.
Antwerp’s proximity to Brussels and the Dutch cities means the catchment area extends well beyond the city limits. A show here could draw Belgians, Dutch, and visiting diaspora from across the Benelux region.

The social system mirrors the trade: trust-based, family-routed and closed by design. Its young generation, educated across Europe, wants at least one open-format night.
