Calgary’s South Asian population has been growing fast, especially in the northeast suburbs. NE Calgary is the hub. Indian grocery stores, temples, gurdwaras, and the kind of density where you run into your cousin’s friend at Superstore on a Tuesday. The community is tight but the dating options are thin.
The show that runs in New York: singles go on dates on stage, comedians host, and the full room mingles before and after. In NE Calgary, where the community runs into each other at Superstore already, the format turns that familiarity into an actual social event built for people who are single and want to be honest about it.
A lot of the South Asian crowd in Calgary came through the oil and gas pipeline or tech. U of Calgary pulls in a big international student population, many of whom stick around after graduation. The result is a community that’s young, professional, and genuinely looking for something beyond apps and family introductions.
Calgary doesn’t get the cultural programming that Toronto or Vancouver does. That’s not because the audience isn’t here. It’s because nobody’s built it. We’re fixing that.

Calgary's desi singles live between two worlds
NE Calgary holds one of Canada's most established Punjabi and South Asian communities, complete with its own commercial strips, banquet halls and a family network of terrifying efficiency. Downtown and the Beltline hold the other half of desi Calgary: oil and gas analysts, engineers and a growing tech crowd who moved for work and know four people. The two halves share festivals and nothing else, and the singles in both report the same empty calendar.
One show bridges the NE and the core for a night. In a city that fills rooms for everything from Stampede to comedy festivals, a desi dating night is overdue by about a decade.
