Indian and Filipino immigration to Manitoba has picked up over the last decade, and the University of Manitoba is one of the biggest pipelines. Students come for the tuition rates, stay for the permanent residency pathway, and then realize the dating options in Winnipeg are... limited.
The format from New York: singles go on dates on stage, comedians host, and the full room mingles before and after. In Winnipeg, where November through March traps everyone indoors, this format forces a room full of desi singles into the same warm space instead of leaving them scattered across frozen commutes and group chat plans that never materialize.
The winters don’t help. From November through March, nobody is meeting anyone new unless they’re forced into a room together. This show does that, but with better energy than a work holiday party and fewer uncles than a community event.
The Winnipeg desi scene is tight knit. If you’ve been to India Spice House or hit up the Diwali celebration at the Convention Centre, you already know the core crowd. This show takes that energy and turns it into something where singles actually connect.

Manitoba's nominee program made Winnipeg one of Canada's fastest growing Indian and South Asian destinations, and the community layered onto an already established Filipino and Punjabi presence across the city's north and south ends. U of M and the health sciences pipeline add students and residents. What nobody added is a social calendar for singles: the community events are family occasions and the winters delete five months of spontaneity annually.
Tight communities make the best rooms. When Winnipeg's desi scene gets its first singles night, the whole scene will be in it, because word travels here like nowhere else.
