Regina’s South Asian community is small but tight. Like, everyone actually knows each other tight. The kind of tight where your mom finds out you went on a date before you get home. That intimacy is a double edged sword for singles: easy to find community, hard to find someone your family doesn’t already have opinions about.
The format from New York: singles go on dates on stage, comedians host, and the full room mingles before and after. In Regina, where the community is intimate enough that your mom hears about your date before you get home, having a structured show gives everyone cover to meet people openly instead of sneaking around family networks.
University of Regina is the main pipeline for new South Asian arrivals. Students come for affordable tuition and a clear path to permanent residency. The ones who stay find a welcoming but quiet city that doesn’t exactly overflow with social events for young brown people.
We’re looking at Regina as part of a prairie tour that would hit Saskatoon and Winnipeg too. The communities are different but the need is the same: a proper social event built for South Asian singles that isn’t a wedding, a religious gathering, or an app.

Regina's grapevine is faster than its dating scene
Regina's South Asian community runs on total familiarity: U of R students, government workers and the families who anchor the gurdwara and temple circuits all know each other at one degree of separation. The infamous phenomenon where your mother knows about your coffee date before you have paid for the coffee is not a joke here, it is infrastructure. Singles respond by not dating locally at all.
The show gives Regina a sanctioned space for exactly what the grapevine polices: public, joyful, communal flirting. When the watching is the format, the surveillance becomes the fun.
What a Garam Masala night in Regina looks like
A U of R grad and a provincial analyst who have never met, on stage, going on a first date while a room that includes both their aunties' informants reacts live. Comedian hosts, audience votes and a mixer where the news cycle finally works in everyone's favor.

Questions About Regina Shows
When is Garam Masala Dating coming to Regina?
No confirmed date yet. Regina is part of our prairie tour plans alongside Saskatoon and Winnipeg for 2026. .
Is the community big enough for a live dating show?
Yes. The format scales to smaller cities. Intimate rooms create stronger connections, and Regina’s tight knit desi community is exactly the audience this show was built for.
Can I apply to be a contestant?
Yes. Applications are open now. Apply early so you are in the system when Regina dates go live.
Is there Indian speed dating in Regina?
Regina's desi community is small enough that speed dating would be a family reunion. A live show works differently: the entertainment carries the night and the mixer makes the introductions the community is too polite to engineer.
Where do South Asian singles in Regina actually meet?
U of R circles, government offices, the health region and community events where everyone's attendance is reported to at least two mothers. A neutral, singles-first room is the missing ingredient.
Would Regina and Saskatoon share a show?
Possibly, the drive is two and a half hours. But Regina's waitlist has been arguing for its own night, and small proud cities that argue usually win with us.
