Queen’s University is the reason Kingston is on this list, and that’s not a bad thing. The commerce, engineering, and medical programs pull in a meaningful South Asian student population, and the grad schools keep people around longer than the four year undergrad track. Kingston’s South Asian community is small but concentrated, and the students who stay for medical residencies, master’s programs, or jobs at the hospital form a core that’s been growing quietly.
The show that runs in New York: singles go on dates on stage, comedians host, and the full room mingles before and after. In Kingston, where Queen’s commerce, engineering, and medical students cycle through the same three Princess Street bars, this format gives them a night with actual romantic intent instead of hoping for a connection at the Grad Club.
Dating in Kingston as a South Asian person means the apps are sparse and the Princess Street bar scene is fine but generic. There’s no event that specifically brings the desi community together for something social and romantic. Queen’s has cultural clubs, sure, but those are community building, not matchmaking. This show is explicitly about meeting someone.
The military base at CFB Kingston and the correctional services sector add professionals to the mix beyond the university. St. Lawrence College brings in students too. The result is a small city with a more interesting cross section of South Asian residents than you’d expect. Doctors, officers, engineers, MBA students, all in a city you can walk across in twenty minutes.

Kingston's smart set has nowhere to flirt
Queen's University stocks Kingston with an accomplished desi cohort: commerce students, engineers, med students at KGH and law students who will all deny attending this show while buying tickets early. The limestone city's social scene is built for undergrads in general and nobody desi in particular, and the singles describe Princess Street as a loop they have been walking for years with the same cast.
The military base and the correctional services sector add professionals nobody's social circle ever includes. One show, every silo, and suddenly the loop has new people in it.
What a Garam Masala night in Kingston looks like
A Queen's med student and an RMC officer who have never met, on stage, going on a first date while the limestone city's whole desi scene reacts in one room. Comedian hosts, live votes and a mixer where the waterfront handles the second act.
