Lancaster University is a top 15 UK university that’s been attracting South Asian students to a city most people outside the North West couldn’t place on a map. The management school is particularly popular with Indian students, and the campus up on the hill has its own social ecosystem. But when the students want to meet desi singles beyond their seminar groups, the options in Lancaster are essentially zero.

The format from New York: real contestants go on live dates on stage while the room watches and reacts. Afterward, the whole crowd mingles. In Lancaster, where the desi community has depth but no dedicated singles programming, this format creates exactly the concentrated energy the city needs.

Lancaster is sandwiched between the Lake District and the Lancashire coast, which makes it beautiful and isolated in equal measure. Manchester and Preston are the nearest cities with meaningful South Asian populations, and neither is exactly next door. The desi students and professionals in Lancaster are stuck in a bubble unless someone creates a reason to pop it.

The university’s collegiate system means social life is structured around colleges, which is great for freshers but limiting by second year. If you’re South Asian and want to meet other South Asian singles, you need something that cuts across those college boundaries. A show that puts 150 to 200 desi people in one room in Lancaster would be unprecedented.
