San Juan
San Juan Has Sun, Salsa, and a Surprising Desi Crowd
San Juan's South Asian community has grown through decades of UPR medical graduates choosing to stay and, more recently, Act 60 tax incentive relocations to Condado and Santurce.

Puerto Rico's South Asian community is small but growing in ways that most people don't realize. The University of Puerto Rico's medical campus in San Juan has been attracting Indian and Pakistani medical students for decades, and many of them stay to practice on the island. Indian and Sri Lankan doctors are a fixture in hospitals across the metro area. More recently, the tax incentive programs (Acts 20, 22, and the newer Act 60) brought a wave of tech and finance professionals, some of them South Asian, relocating to Condado, Isla Verde, and the Santurce arts district.
The format from New York: real dates happen on stage, the audience votes, and a mixer wraps the evening. San Juan is a US territory with no visa requirements for mainland desi communities, and the UPR medical pipeline plus Act 60 tax incentives have quietly built a South Asian population that deserves a night out designed for them.
The desi community in San Juan is spread thin across the island and doesn't have a neighbourhood or a gathering spot the way cities like Houston or London do. Indian restaurants are sparse. Community events are rare. People connect through professional networks or not at all. A show that concentrates the scattered community into one room for one night creates something that doesn't exist here organically.
San Juan's nightlife and cultural scene is world class. La Placita de Santurce on a Thursday night, the galleries in Old San Juan, the Condado strip. This city knows how to go out. Adding a desi dating show to that mix is genuinely exciting because it's something this island has never seen.

San Juan's desi scene is small, new and sun-drunk
Puerto Rico's South Asian community is an unlikely assembly: UPR's medical trainees, Act 60 tax-incentive transplants running mainland careers from Condado condos and a small settled merchant community. Everyone arrived for different reasons, nobody arrived with a network and the island's famous social warmth has no desi-specific channel to flow through.
One show builds the channel. In a scene this new, the first event is the founding myth, and founding myths with beach access age exceptionally well.
What a Garam Masala night in San Juan looks like
A UPR resident and a Condado fintech transplant who have never met, on stage, going on a first date while the island's entire desi scene fits in one room with salsa bleeding through the walls. Comedian hosts, live votes and a mixer that ends barefoot on Ocean Park sand.

Questions About San Juan Shows
When is Garam Masala Dating coming to San Juan?
San Juan is part of our Caribbean expansion. and we will notify you when dates are locked in.
Can people fly in from the mainland US without a passport?
Yes. Puerto Rico is a US territory, so no passport or visa is needed. A weekend trip from New York, Miami, or Houston to attend the show is an easy sell.
Can I apply to be a contestant on stage?
Yes. Use the apply link on this page to submit your application. San Juan is part of our Caribbean expansion and we are looking for contestants from the UPR medical community, Act 60 transplants, and South Asian professionals across the island who are ready to be part of the first desi dating show Puerto Rico has ever seen.
Is there Indian speed dating in San Juan?
Puerto Rico's small desi community has never had an event of its own, and the mainland scene is a flight away. The island's first desi dating show doubles as its first desi census.
Where do desi singles in San Juan actually meet?
The UPR medical campus, the Act 60 remote-work crowd in Condado and Dorado and the handful of Indian restaurants where everyone nods at everyone. Recognition without introduction, the classic small-scene bind.
Does a mainland-style show translate to the island?
The format travels anywhere there are singles and a stage, and San Juan adds what no mainland stop has: a mixer that walks out onto a Caribbean beach in a US jurisdiction. The logistics are absurdly in our favour.
