Victoria’s South Asian community is smaller than Vancouver’s but it’s there, and it’s growing. University of Victoria pulls in a solid international student population, and the island lifestyle attracts professionals who want the West Coast vibe without Vancouver rent. The result is a pocket of desi folks who are relatively isolated from the mainland scene.
The format from New York: singles go on dates on stage, comedians host, and the full room mingles before and after. On Vancouver Island, where the ferry separates you from the mainland dating pool, this format is the difference between seeing the same twelve app profiles and meeting fifty new people in a single night.
If you’re South Asian and single in Victoria, your dating pool is genuinely limited by geography. You can take the ferry to Vancouver for the weekend, but that gets old.
