Abbotsford’s Punjabi Sikh community is one of the most established in Canada. The farming families go back generations, the gurdwaras are institutions, and the South Asian population is a defining part of the city’s identity. Drive through the Fraser Valley and you’ll see Punjabi names on the berry farms, the trucking companies, and the businesses lining South Fraser Way. This isn’t a niche community. It’s the community.
The format from New York: singles go on dates on stage, comedians host, and the full room mingles before and after. In Abbotsford, where Punjabi farming families go back generations and the younger generation is tired of being set up by their bhua, this format gives Valley kids an event built for them specifically, no hour plus drive to Vancouver required.
University of the Fraser Valley brings in students who add to the energy, but the real draw here is the second and third generation kids who grew up in the Valley. They went to Abbotsford Senior, they know every farm road between Clearbrook and Matsqui, and they’re tired of being set up by their bhua. They want to meet someone on their own terms.
The Fraser Valley can feel isolated from the Vancouver social scene. It’s an hour plus drive into the city, and by the time you factor in the return trip, nobody wants to go out. A show in Abbotsford means the Valley crowd gets their own event without the commute. Chilliwack, Mission, and Langley all feed into this catchment too.
Waitlist is open. Abbotsford is part of our BC expansion. Get on it, or apply to be a contestant.
The Fraser Valley's roots run deep and its dating options run dry
Abbotsford's Punjabi Sikh community goes back over a century, from the farming families who built the valley's berry industry to the trucking and construction businesses that anchor it now. The community's depth is its dating paradox: three generations of shared history means every introduction arrives pre-loaded, and UFV's students plus the young professionals get a social scene where their families' reputations date alongside them.
A valley show offers what the community structure cannot: a night of fresh context, public permission and a room where being single is the event rather than the topic.
What a Garam Masala night in Abbotsford looks like
Two valley singles who have never met, a UFV grad and a logistics company manager maybe, on stage, going on a first date while a room full of people whose grandparents knew each other reacts at harvest festival volume. Comedian hosts, live votes and a mixer where the valley's famous hospitality points at romance for once.

Questions About Abbotsford Shows
When is Garam Masala Dating coming to Abbotsford?
No confirmed date yet. Abbotsford is part of our BC expansion for 2026. for first access.
Will the show draw from Chilliwack, Mission, and Langley too?
Yes. The Fraser Valley catchment includes all those cities. A show in Abbotsford serves the entire Valley without the drive to Vancouver.
Can I apply to be a contestant?
Yes. Applications are open now. Apply early to be in the casting pool when Abbotsford dates are confirmed.
Is there Punjabi speed dating in Abbotsford?
The Fraser Valley's introductions run through families that have known each other for three generations. Nothing singles-first exists between Surrey and Chilliwack, which is exactly the gap a valley show fills.
Where do Fraser Valley desi singles actually meet?
UFV circles, the farming and trucking family networks and Vancouver trips that cost an evening in traffic each way. The valley's singles are the most underserved in BC and they know it.
Abbotsford show or just drive to Surrey?
The valley deserves better than being Surrey's suburb in our routing. If Abbotsford's waitlist keeps pace, the show comes up the highway. History says the valley shows up for its own.
