ASML to the Strip, Eindhoven's Desi Engineers Get a Night Out
Eindhoven has a growing South Asian community of students and professionals contributing to the city's international character
Waitlist signups determine where we announce next.
Eindhoven's Indian community exists because of one company and one university, and both are world class. ASML, the semiconductor lithography monopoly worth more than most countries' GDPs, has been pulling in Indian engineers at a pace that's reshaped the demographics of the Brainport region. TU Eindhoven is the pipeline, churning out Indian master's and PhD students in electrical engineering, computer science, and data science who feed directly into ASML, Philips, NXP, and the constellation of high tech companies that orbit them.
The format from New York: real contestants go on live dates on stage while the room watches and reacts. Afterward, the whole crowd mingles. In Eindhoven, this format is designed to concentrate the scattered desi community into one room for one night, creating connections that the apps and expat mixers never deliver.
The neighbourhoods around the TU campus, Woensel, and parts of Strijp have become informal Indian hubs. There's a handful of Indian restaurants, an active WhatsApp group culture, and weekend cricket matches that double as social events. But for singles specifically, the options are grim. The dating apps in a city of 230,000 show you the same twelve faces. The colleague pool at ASML's clean rooms is not where anyone wants to find a partner.
Eindhoven's tech corridor extends to Helmond and Veldhoven, spreading the Indian population across suburbs connected by bike paths and highways. A show in Eindhoven pulls from the entire Brainport region, which is where most of these engineers actually live and work. The concentration of single, professional South Asians per square kilometre here might be the highest in continental Europe outside of the Randstad.
