Leicester became the first city in the UK where ethnic minorities form the majority population. The Gujarati community here is one of the largest outside of Gujarat itself. Belgrave Road is the heart of it: jewellers, sari shops, sweet shops, and restaurants that have been there for fifty years. If you’ve been to Leicester’s Diwali celebrations, you know this city goes harder for it than anywhere else in Europe.
The format from New York: real contestants go on live dates on stage while the room watches and reacts. Afterward, the whole crowd mingles. In Leicester, where the desi community has depth but no dedicated singles programming, this format creates exactly the concentrated energy the city needs.
The dating situation for South Asians in Leicester is unique. The community is so established that everyone’s families know each other, which makes casual dating either very easy or impossibly complicated depending on who your mum talks to. A live show gives people a way to meet outside the usual family and community networks.
University of Leicester and De Montfort attract a good number of South Asian students, but the real audience here is the settled British Asian population that’s been in this city for generations. Second gen, third gen, and a worldview that’s distinctly Leicester.
We’d be shocked if this isn’t one of the best rooms on the UK tour. Waitlist is open. Get on it, or apply to be a contestant.
Dating in Leicester when everyone knows your family
Leicester's blessing and curse is the same fact: the community is so established that anonymity does not exist. Your parents' friends run the shops on Belgrave Road, your masi knows the temple committee and any date you go on within a two mile radius will be witnessed and discussed. That drives half the city's singles onto apps where the nearest matches are in Birmingham, and keeps the other half from dating at all until a rishta arrives.
A live dating show flips that dynamic on purpose. The watching is the point, the room is on your side and the mixer afterward gives everyone a socially airtight reason to be there: it is a comedy night. What happens after the comedy is your business.
What a Garam Masala night on the Golden Mile side of town looks like
Diwali on Belgrave Road draws one of the biggest celebrations outside India, so nobody needs to explain to Leicester how to show up for a desi night out. Picture that energy pointed at two local singles on stage going on a real first date, with comedian hosts, live audience votes and a Gujarati aunty in row two who has opinions she intends to share.
The waitlist decides the UK tour order after London. for first access, or apply to be a contestant and give the Golden Mile something new to talk about.

Questions About Leicester Shows
When is Garam Masala Dating coming to Leicester?
No date confirmed yet. Leicester is on our UK expansion radar. to be notified first.
Will the show be in English?
Yes. The show runs in English. Leicester's Gujarati community on Belgrave Road is one of the most established in Europe. English is the daily professional language for the city's second and third generation British Asians, and the room brings Gujarati warmth with it.
Can I apply to be a contestant?
Yes. Apply now. Applications stay active for 12 months. Leicester applicants will be prioritized when we confirm a date.
Are there singles events for British Asians in Leicester?
Leicester has garba nights, temple socials and community dinners in every direction, but almost nothing built for singles who want to meet outside the family network. A live comedy dating show gives the city a way to date in public without the whole community filing a report.
Why Leicester instead of just doing London?
Because Leicester's South Asian community is proportionally the biggest in Britain and the most tightly knit. A room this connected reacts louder, votes harder and mingles faster. We think it will be one of the best crowds on the UK tour, full stop.
What ages come to the show?
Mostly 21 to 40, with the mixer skewing to mid 20s and 30s. Couples and married friends come to watch too. Nobody checks your intentions at the door.
