Hyson Green and the Radford area have been Nottingham’s South Asian centre for years. The University of Nottingham has also been recruiting heavily from India, making it one of the top UK destinations for Indian students. Between the established community and the university pipeline, Nottingham’s desi population is bigger than the city’s reputation suggests.
The format from New York: real contestants go on live dates on stage while the room watches and reacts. Afterward, the whole crowd mingles. In Nottingham, where the desi community has depth but no dedicated singles programming, this format creates exactly the concentrated energy the city needs.
Nottingham Trent adds to the student population, and the city’s emerging tech and creative sectors are retaining more young professionals than they used to. The problem is the same one every mid sized UK city has: the South Asian community is there but the events designed for young singles are not.
The comedy scene in Nottingham is strong. Glee Club, Just the Tonic, and a rotation of touring acts mean this city knows how to be an audience. The live live dating show plays perfectly into that culture.

Nottingham's desi scene is young and unclaimed
Two large universities give Nottingham a South Asian population that skews younger than any comparable UK city, layered over the established communities of Hyson Green and Radford. The city's nightlife is famous and generic: nothing in it speaks desi, so the students run society events, the second gen professionals drive to Leicester or Birmingham and the scene never accumulates an identity of its own.
Unclaimed scenes are the best ones to claim. A recurring Nottingham show becomes the East Midlands student crowd's institution by its second run.
What a Garam Masala night in Nottingham looks like
A UoN medic and a Trent design grad who have never met, on stage, going on a first date while a young, loud East Midlands crowd votes like it is a cup final. Comedian hosts, live chaos and a Lace Market mixer that runs on student stamina.

Questions About Nottingham Shows
When is Garam Masala Dating coming to Nottingham?
No date confirmed yet. Nottingham is on our UK expansion radar. to be notified first.
Will the show be in English?
Yes. The show runs in English. Nottingham's South Asian community in Hyson Green and the University of Nottingham's large Indian student cohort are all English-comfortable. The city's comedy culture means the audience already knows how to engage with live performance.
Can I apply to be a contestant?
Yes. Apply now. Applications stay active for 12 months. Nottingham applicants will be prioritized when we confirm a date.
Is there Asian speed dating in Nottingham?
Nottingham's desi singles get student club nights or Leicester's events up the road. Nothing recurring exists in the city itself, which for two big universities' worth of desi students is a genuine miss.
Where do British Asian singles in Nottingham actually meet?
UoN and Trent circles, Hyson Green community life and the Lace Market on weekends. The city's desi crowd is younger than most and completely unanchored. An anchor is exactly what a recurring show is.
Nottingham or Leicester first for the East Midlands?
Leicester's community depth versus Nottingham's student energy is a genuine coin flip, so the waitlists decide. The loser hosts second and everyone attends both, because it is a 40 minute drive.
