Middlesbrough
The North East Forgot Middlesbrough. We Didn’t. Teesside Gets the Show.
Middlesbrough's South Asian community is established and growing, contributing to the city's multicultural identity
Waitlist signups determine where we announce next.
Teesside University has been one of the more affordable entry points for Indian international students in the North East, and Middlesbrough’s South Asian community has grown alongside it. The Linthorpe Road area has seen Indian and Pakistani restaurants and businesses multiply over the last few years. It’s a community that’s building in real time, and the social infrastructure hasn’t caught up yet.
The format from New York: real contestants go on live dates on stage while the room watches and reacts. Afterward, the whole crowd mingles. In Middlesbrough, where the desi community has depth but no dedicated singles programming, this format creates exactly the concentrated energy the city needs.
The North East can feel overlooked when it comes to cultural programming for South Asian audiences. Newcastle gets some attention, but Middlesbrough and the wider Teesside area are left to fend for themselves. The Pakistani community in areas like Gresham and North Ormesby has been here for decades, and the newer Indian student arrivals add a different energy. Putting both groups in the same room is what makes the show interesting.
Middlesbrough’s cost of living means the professionals who stay here have disposable income and time. They’re not burning three hours a day commuting like their London counterparts. What they lack is something worth going out for on a Friday night that speaks to their background. This show is that thing.
