Newcastle has two major universities pulling in South Asian students year after year. Newcastle University’s business and engineering schools have large Indian cohorts, and Northumbria has been growing its international intake aggressively. The result is a Tyneside desi community that’s younger and more student heavy than some other UK cities, but it’s growing into something permanent. The restaurants along the Bigg Market area and out towards Fenham tell the story.

The format from New York: real contestants go on live dates on stage while the room watches and reacts. Afterward, the whole crowd mingles. In Newcastle, where the desi community has depth but no dedicated singles programming, this format creates exactly the concentrated energy the city needs.

Newcastle’s nightlife reputation is legendary. The Toon knows how to go out. But the South Asian community here has never had something built specifically for them. You’ve got Bollywood nights at clubs that are really just regular club nights with a different playlist, and that’s about it. A proper dating show with comedy and real matchmaking energy is a completely different proposition.

The Geordie warmth is a real thing and it makes for incredible audience energy. People in Newcastle don’t hold back. They react, they cheer, they shout advice at the people on stage. If you’ve ever been to a comedy show in Newcastle, you know the crowd makes it. That’s exactly what this show needs.

Waitlist is open. Newcastle is part of our North East England plans. , or apply to be a contestant.

The Toon's desi scene is dissolved in the world's friendliest nightlife

Newcastle and Northumbria pull thousands of South Asian students to the North East, and the NHS trusts keep a professional layer growing. The catch is that Newcastle's nightlife is so strong and so generalist that no desi lane ever formed: everyone just joins the Toon's default night out, has a great time and meets no one culturally compatible. Geordie warmth plus desi invisibility is the specific local equation.

A show creates the lane. The city's audience culture, arguably Britain's warmest, turns the format up to eleven without being asked.

What a Garam Masala night in Newcastle looks like

A Newcastle medic and a Northumbria design grad who have never met, on stage, going on a first date while a Geordie-desi crowd adopts them both within minutes. Comedian hosts, live votes and a Quayside mixer where nobody has ever once been left standing alone.

Will the show be in English?

Can I apply to be a contestant?

Yes. Apply now. Applications stay active for 12 months. Newcastle applicants will be prioritized when we confirm a date.

Is there Asian speed dating in Newcastle?

A city that treats every night out as an event and every stranger as a future friend? The mixer will run itself and the audience votes will be audible from Gateshead.
