Purdue has one of the largest Indian graduate student populations in the entire country. Walk through the engineering buildings or the grad student apartments off State Street and you'll hear it. The desi community here is enormous relative to the size of the town. The problem is that West Lafayette is a small college town with limited social venues, which means the same people end up at the same spots every weekend.
The show format from New York is built for exactly this kind of market: real contestants go on live dates on stage while the audience watches and reacts. Afterward, the whole room mingles. It's part comedy show, part social experiment, and 100% more effective than swiping through the same twenty profiles within a five mile radius.
The grad school grind makes it easy to spend three years in West Lafayette without meeting anyone outside your lab or your apartment building. This show fixes that by putting everyone in one room with one purpose. No awkward department mixers, no forced small talk at a potluck. Just a fun night out where meeting someone new is the whole point.
We're building the West Lafayette waitlist. Purdue grad students, postdocs, faculty, and anyone in the Lafayette area. for first access to tickets, or apply to be a contestant and do something your labmates will talk about for the rest of the semester.
Purdue's Indian grad community is a city inside a town
Purdue holds one of the largest Indian graduate student populations in the country, dense enough that entire research groups, apartment buildings and intramural leagues run desi by default. The dating reality inside that density is grim in a specific way: the pool is huge but the visibility is zero, because everyone socializes inside their lab, their batch and their apartment block. Three years can pass without meeting anyone outside a five person radius.
The show is an anti-silo machine. One room, every department, every year, plus the Lafayette professionals nobody remembers exist. The density finally gets to act like a scene.
What a Garam Masala night in West Lafayette looks like
An aero PhD and a Krannert masters student who have never met, on stage, going on a first date while half the graduate school reacts like it is a qualifier defense. Comedian hosts, live votes and a mixer at Chauncey Hill where the second dates schedule themselves around lab hours.
