Ann Arbor is on the tour list. Sign up below and help us get there! Everyone on the list gets tickets first when we announce.

UMich is one of the biggest universities in the country, and the South Asian presence on campus and in the broader Ann Arbor area is hard to miss. Between undergrads, grad students, postdocs, and the professionals who stuck around after graduation, there's a sizable desi population here with limited options for meeting new people outside of their existing circles.

The format from New York: real contestants go on live dates on stage while the audience watches and reacts. Afterward, the whole room mingles. The beauty of this in Ann Arbor is that it pulls people from across the area, so you're not just recycling the same faces from your department or your intramural cricket team.

Ann Arbor is a town where everyone knows everyone. That's great for community, but it makes dating feel like a fishbowl. The beauty of this show is that it pulls people from across the area. You're not just running into the same group from your department or your intramural cricket team. You're in a room full of people you haven't met yet.

We're building the Ann Arbor waitlist. Get on it and you'll know about the show before it's posted anywhere else. If you want to be a contestant, apply below. Going on a live date in front of your college town is either brave or unhinged, and we respect both.

The fishbowl problem, Michigan edition

Michigan's desi community is large, accomplished and trapped in the smallest social space imaginable: the same orgs, the same Diag walks, the same weekend spots, year after year. By second year everyone has full context on everyone, which turns every potential date into a known quantity before the first coffee. The escape routes are apps that recycle the same campus pool or a drive to Detroit's suburbs where the crowd skews family.

Fresh context is the cure, and a live dating show is fresh context by design: new format, mixed crowd and 90 minutes of shared laughter to reset how everyone sees each other.

What a Garam Masala night in Ann Arbor looks like

A Ross MBA and a North Campus robotics PhD who have never met, on stage, going on a first date while a room that shares eleven mutual friends per capita reacts live. Comedian hosts, audience votes and a mixer that migrates down Main Street when the venue closes.

Questions About Ann Arbor Shows

When is Garam Masala Dating coming to Ann Arbor?

No date confirmed yet. We are gauging interest through the waitlist. UMich's South Asian community makes Ann Arbor a strong candidate.

Will people come from Detroit?

Yes. College town shows draw from the broader region. Expect attendees from across southeast Michigan.

Can I apply to be a contestant?

Yes. Apply now. Applications stay active for 12 months. Ann Arbor applicants will be prioritized when we confirm a date.

Is there Indian speed dating in Ann Arbor?

Ann Arbor has every kind of event except this one. The UMich desi community socializes through orgs and departments, which produces friendships and thesis committees, not dates. We handle the missing category.

Where do South Asian singles in Ann Arbor actually meet?

Ross study rooms, the med campus, North Campus engineering labs and the same four coffee shops on State Street. The fishbowl is real: everyone recognizes everyone and nobody makes the first move. A live show makes it for you.

Will Detroit metro people come to an Ann Arbor show?

The drive is 40 minutes and the crowds want to mix anyway. An Ann Arbor room always ends up part campus, part Canton and part Troy, which is exactly the fresh-faces effect a fishbowl town needs.
