Troy, Michigan is one of the most Indian suburbs in America, and if you grew up there you already know that. You also know that dating within the community here means either getting set up by someone's mom or running into the same twelve people at every garba and Diwali party. Canton, Novi, Farmington Hills, West Bloomfield. The desi footprint in metro Detroit is massive, but the social infrastructure for single people is basically nonexistent.
The show that runs in New York is changing that. Real contestants go on live dates on stage while a packed room watches, reacts, and picks favorites. Afterward, the whole crowd mingles. It's loud, it's fun, and nobody has to pretend they're not there to meet someone. Metro Detroit's desi community is overdue for this.
The Detroit metro desi community is heavily professional. Automotive engineers, healthcare workers, tech folks who chose Michigan over the coasts. There are also UMich grads who stuck around and Wayne State students who never left. The common thread is that everyone knows the community is here, but there's no single event that brings all the single people together in one place.
That's what this is. We're building the Detroit area waitlist now. When we announce a show, the waitlist gets priority. Apply below if you want to be a contestant when we come to town.
And yes, we'll probably do the show somewhere between Troy and downtown. We know nobody wants to drive to the other side of the metro on a weeknight.
Metro Detroit built desi suburbia and skipped the singles scene
Troy, Novi, Canton and Farmington Hills form one of the most complete desi suburban ecosystems in America: temples and gurdwaras, groceries at scale, weekend language schools and an automotive engineering workforce that has recruited South Asians for two generations. It is a fantastic place to raise a desi family and a strangely hard place to start one, because every community event assumes the family already exists. The singles either work the apps across forty suburbs of sprawl or wait for the network to produce a rishta.
One show gives the metro's scattered singles a common room. Automotive engineers, med residents, second gen kids back home after college, all in one place with a reason to talk.

A Troy product engineer and a Henry Ford resident who have never met, on stage, going on a first date while a room full of metro Detroit desis votes with union-hall conviction. Then the mixer, where 'which suburb' finally becomes an icebreaker instead of a dealbreaker.

Where would the show be in the Detroit metro?
Venue TBD. We are looking at spaces accessible to both the Troy and downtown Detroit communities. Waitlist members will be first to know.
Can I apply to be a contestant?
Yes. Apply now. Applications stay active for 12 months. Detroit area applicants will be prioritized when we confirm a date.
Is there Indian speed dating in Detroit or Troy?
Metro Detroit's desi events are community-run and family-flavored. A live comedy dating show with a mixer is the singles-first night Troy, Novi and Canton have never had, and the waitlist says they want it.
Where do South Asian singles in metro Detroit actually meet?
Automotive campuses, the hospital systems, Troy and Novi community events and each other's family weddings. The suburbs built everything except a room for the single ones. That is our department.
Troy or downtown for the venue?
Somewhere on the Woodward corridor that both can reach, realistically. The suburbs have the density, downtown has the rooms and the waitlist zip codes referee the final call.
