Uppsala University is the oldest in Scandinavia, founded in 1477, and its medical, pharmacy, and science faculties attract Indian researchers and students. The city is Sweden's fourth largest but it feels like a town, with the massive cathedral dominating the skyline and the Fyris River dividing the old city from the newer university buildings. SLU (Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences) adds another academic institution to the pipeline.
The format from New York: real contestants go on live dates on stage while the room watches and reacts. Afterward, the whole crowd mingles. In Uppsala, this format is designed to concentrate the scattered desi community into one room for one night, creating connections that the apps and expat mixers never deliver.
The nation system at Uppsala University (student clubs organized by Swedish region) creates a social structure that international students can join but don't always feel part of. The Indian student association organizes events, but they're cultural celebrations, not dating events. The gap between Diwali parties and actual singles programming is one that every university town desi community faces. This show fills it.
Uppsala's compact size means the show would feel intimate. Everyone in the room would know they're part of something small and special. That intimacy is a feature. The connections formed in a room of 100 people who are all genuinely present are often stronger than in a crowd of 500.

Uppsala's student nations have organised Scandinavian social life since the 1600s: pubs, choirs, balls and gasques for every taste, provided your taste developed in Sweden. The university's desi researchers and masters students, strong in biomedicine and engineering, join the nations and remain spectators inside them, with Stockholm's forty-minute train as the escape valve.
One show gives Uppsala's desi crowd its own tradition in a town that respects traditions above all else. Longevity is the local currency and we intend to mint some.
