Edinburgh is a city that already understands live entertainment better than almost anywhere in the world. The Fringe Festival makes it the global capital of comedy every August, and the appetite for new, boundary pushing live formats is baked into the city’s DNA. The live South Asian dating show with comedy woven in? Edinburgh gets it.
The format from New York: real contestants go on live dates on stage while the room watches and reacts. Afterward, the whole crowd mingles. In Edinburgh, where the desi community has depth but no dedicated singles programming, this format creates exactly the concentrated energy the city needs.
University of Edinburgh has a significant South Asian student population, and the city’s tech and finance sectors (particularly around the Quartermile and the Exchange District) attract Indian professionals. The community is smaller than Glasgow’s but educated, engaged, and absolutely underserved when it comes to social events for singles.
Edinburgh’s dating scene is polite, which is a nice way of saying it’s hard to break through the surface. People are friendly but guarded. This show removes the guessing game. Everyone in the room is there for the same reason, and the stage portion gives you something to talk about at the mixer.
We’re looking at Edinburgh as a Fringe activation and a regular tour stop. Waitlist is open. Apply to be a contestant if you want to go on a blind date in one of the most beautiful cities on earth.
The world's live capital has no live desi dating
Edinburgh audiences are the most format-literate on earth: a city that hosts the Fringe every August knows exactly how to sit in a room and let a show happen to them. Its South Asian community, university researchers, fintech professionals, medics and a settled community from Leith to Newington, has never been offered a live format of its own, and the singles default to apps whose Edinburgh pools recycle by February.
This is the easiest audience pitch on the UK tour: a city that will try any show once and a community with nothing else on the calendar.
What a Garam Masala night in Edinburgh looks like
An informatics PhD and a fintech analyst who have never met, on stage, going on a first date while an audience trained by a thousand Fringe shows delivers perfectly timed reactions. Comedian hosts, live votes and a mixer in the Old Town where the closes and wynds handle the romance logistics.

Questions About Edinburgh Shows
When is Garam Masala Dating coming to Edinburgh?
No date confirmed yet. Edinburgh is on our UK expansion radar. to be notified first.
Will the show be in English?
Yes. The show runs in English. Edinburgh is an English-speaking Scottish city with a strong South Asian student and professional community at the university and in the tech and finance sectors. The Fringe city understands live English-language performance better than almost anywhere.
Can I apply to be a contestant?
Yes. Apply now. Applications stay active for 12 months. Edinburgh applicants will be prioritized when we confirm a date.
Is there Indian speed dating in Edinburgh?
Edinburgh has a festival for everything except desi singles. The university and tech scene supply the crowd; the city's live format literacy supplies the audience; we supply the missing show.
Where do South Asian singles in Edinburgh actually meet?
University of Edinburgh circles, the fintech and consultancy offices, Leith's social scene and August, when the whole city becomes one venue. The other eleven months are our opening.
Would the show ever run during the Fringe?
The thought has occurred to us more than once. A dating show in the world's biggest live festival city is either a Fringe run waiting to happen or the best off-season booking in Britain. Possibly both.
